Katya Yanova: Lacuna

Says Katya: This project is a reflection on the lack of understanding between people of different age, language, emotional and cultural background. These misunderstandings caused by gaps and contradictions in communication are defined as lacunas. Lacuna as an element of absence, omission, gap, missing, unclear, “dark place”. Modern world is gravitating to unity and evolution of communication. But can we really have a meaningful dialogue in a society where every individual is constantly shaping one’s own consciousness in a boundless flow of information? I explore the idea of lacuna with my visual perception of the human image, symbols and metaphors in everyday life.

Ekaterina Yanova – artist, photographer from Moscow. In her projects, Ekaterina explores the nature of sensory experience through the impression of modern human – emotionally unstable and vulnerable. She centers her work around a perception of reality, fact and fiction, symbols and metaphors in image.
